Anatomy of an Icon, Jack Wrangler dies.

I remember the first porn movie that I ever saw, it was some movie that the title escapes me but it starred Jack Wrangler . It was at the Mitchell Brothers Cinema in Berkeley CA. Oh Shattuck Ave. My best friend and I were scared shit less to go in but we mustered up the courage to do so. I was only 18 he was 16 but the guy let us in any way We set in the back of that darkened theater and watched the grainy film and drank our smuggled Budwiser we stole from my friends fathers garage stash . We giggled through the whole thing because we were both virgins at the time.. It pissed off the older men who were sitting in the rows in front of us but we did not care. I guess we were interfering with them jacking off or something. The one thing that I thought was funny was all these guys were all wearing long coats and it was the middle of summer.

Jack Wrangler was a stunning looking man who to me epitomized what I thought a man should look like. He was a sun kissed blond beauty with just the perfect body and god was he hot. It was a straight porn movie that I first saw him in but I did some research and I found out that he also did gay porn as well and I saw Kansas City Trucking Company soon after at the Nob Hill theater in San Francisco. I got to be good friends with the guy who ran it at the time. This was back in the days when porn was still on film. Which reminds of the movie Boogie Nights. No one really had a VCR because the damn things cost over a grand at the time.

I remember going out one night to buy my first Playgirl magazine and it had a story about Jack Wrangler in it. Buying that Magazine was a true adventure in it self. I was to embarrassed to buy it near my home so I went on this odyssey that took me through three counties and I finally had enough nerve to go in a store and buy it. When I think about now it is funny but back then it was some serious shit to buy porn. And what is funny is that Jack Wrangler was a big part of all of that. I think I still have that issue somewhere in a box in my closet. The magazine stayed in the closet but I came out.

I recently watched Anatomy of an Icon, which is all about Jack Wrangler, and all of those fond memories about him and my youth came flooding back. Then to day I read the sad news that he has passed away. It hurts when you look up and notice that so many people who helped shape who you are and were big influences on your life pass away. The one thing that I will always have are the memories of them and I will cherish those and share them so that others can enjoy them as well.

There is an article on the Gay Porn times by JC Adams about him and it links to an article on Xbiz and Dewayne In SD has done a piece on him as well Just one hot minute. My deepest sympathies go out to his wife Margaret Whiting who is an Icon herself in this time of sadness.

  1. Good post Elm and I just placed Anatomy of an Icon in my NetFlix cue at #1 I noticed an hour later a short wait has now ensued. ;)

I remember seeing my first VCR, a two piece 80 pound Sony Betamax with a separate tuner and cassette devices.
    Cost in 1975?

    1899.00

I did not buy my first VCR until Jan 1982 I spent 999 on sale for an RCA Stereo model listed for 1299.

    Thought I got a bargain!

My first porn purchase was The Boys Of San Francisco I still have that box and tape (dont dare play it)
